About the Position
As a Casual Commis Chef, you will be part of the Arts Centre Melbourne kitchen team, preparing and presenting high-quality food across restaurants, cafés and event venues. Working under the guidance of the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs, you will ensure food is produced to recipe standards, contribute to menu development, maintain exceptional food safety and hygiene practices, and support efficient kitchen operations in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of venues while helping deliver outstanding hospitality experiences.
Multiple Casual Roles, Band 1.2 $35.39 per hour (plus casual loading) + 12% superannuation
Your Skills and Experience
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience
- Valid Food Safety Handling Certificate
- Previous experience in a hotel, restaurant or catering environment
- Ability to prepare food to consistent quality and presentation standards
- Experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen
- Knowledge of food costing, stock rotation and waste minimisation
- Strong understanding of food safety and workplace health and safety
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Creative approach to food preparation and menu development
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple venues and varying shifts
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Word
- Experience using recipe management and food safety systems (desirable)
- Valid working rights in Australia
- Satisfactory National Police Check required

The Hospitality team sits within the Customer Service Pillar and is responsible for the service and delivery of all food and beverage related activity in Arts Centre Melbourne including the Theatres building, Hamer Hall and Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
The Hospitality Unit is focused on delivering exceptional customer service and innovative cuisine across all venues and function spaces in keeping with Arts Centre Melbourne standards.
