About the Role

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Head of Financial Control plays a key leadership role overseeing financial management, compliance, and procurement. This position is responsible for driving financial strategy, risk management, and long-term planning, while ensuring statutory compliance and enhancing financial systems and processes.

Leading the Financial Control Team, this role provides strategic and operational support to the organisation, fostering a high-performance culture and delivering timely, accurate reporting to support effective decision-making.

The Head of Financial Control works collaboratively with senior leadership, leads change initiatives, and supports day-to-day financial operations, ensuring deliverables are met on time. A strong focus on cash management and forecasting underpins the role’s contribution to achieving Arts Centre Melbourne’s long-term financial sustainability.

Full time ongoing position. Band 5.3.27 $146,307.00 per annum plus superannuation.

 

Your Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification e.g. ACA, CPA etc.
  • Extensive post qualification experience within a complex business
  • Demonstrated experience of overseeing the development and enhancement of financial systems, including interfaced systems – delivering finance transformation
  • Excellent knowledge of financial concepts and principles, and proven experience in identifying and resolving underlying issues
  • Demonstrated experience in tax reporting (BAS, PAYG) essential, and demonstrated experience of Government reporting desirable
  • Experience of overseeing compliance with Standing Directions of the Minister for Finance, including the frameworks of the Victorian Government Purchasing Board (VGPB) would be highly desirable
  • Knowledge of data management, data cubes, multi-data-source planning, corporate performance management and business intelligence systems essential
  • Ability to translate complex data and financial information into meaningful insights for a wide range of non-finance stakeholders
  • Advanced systems capabilities and knowledge of Microsoft products, particularly Excel and its analytical capabilities, as well as a suite of organisation and collaboration tools essential
  • Experience using systems, tools and programs currently in use by ACM
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Extensive experience in leading, empowering and developing subject matter experts to lead their teams with confidence and autonomy
